Political Communication and Political Science

badge

I offer a broad mix of courses in the fields of political communication and political science in general, such as introductory seminars, which for example deal with the analysis of election campaigns and the effects of lobbying in international comparison. I also look at individual actors and institutions, one example being parliamentarians and their (communication) strategies. Moreover, I also make use of topics of political communication and political science to teach social science methodology to my students.

Sports Communication

trophy(1)

My students learn in my sports communication courses that ‚sports’ is more that the glittering facade of professional sports and its accompanying events.  Thus, I teach project seminars on the interplay of sports, politics, media, and society, in which my students work on their own little research projects on the world of sports. I also teach practical seminars, in which not only on the communication aspect of sports is important, but in which also sports management on the professional and amateur level plays a major role.

Social Science Methodology

analytics

Learning social science methodology is not always the students’ favourite pastime, and thus I teach these topics with the use of concrete examples and accessible topics. I make use of political Communication topics to let my students work on their own projects, for which they may choose highly topical research questions. Apart from that, I am a Writing Coach, and lead my students through their essays and dissertations, always looking for ways to let the words flow freely.

Courses taught in English

language

The main language of my courses is German, which comes naturally since I work at a German university. However, every now and then I am offered the opportunity to teach in English. There are several topics I teach in these classes, and political communication plays a role as well as sports communication. This is also the place for practical seminars, in which students may design their own communication strategies and concepts.
